SDG Localisation Training Modules

The three SDG localisation training modules targets local governance stakeholders to help strengthen capacities to mainstream and integrate the SDGs at the local level.

The first module provides an introduction to the SDGs and focuses on awareness raising and open learning, the second module provides a guide to alignment of public policies with the Goals from planning to implementation, and the third module guides reporting of the SDG through exercises and tools for Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) and Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs).

Combos approach

The COMBOS approach is a collaborative engagement process for recognizing synergies and interconnections between the SDGs based on the priorities of each country.

It can complement and be complemented by other SDG assessment and acceleration tools, such as the Rapid Integrated Assessment, microsimulations and PovRisk, among others, before, during and in the follow-up to a Mainstreaming, Acceleration and Policy Support engagement. The approach helps to frame a challenge, develop a theory of change, construct and implement a roadmap, define key elements of implementation, and evaluate results.

How to build a National Multidimensional Poverty Index

This joint handbook provides practical guidance for policymakers, statisticians, practitioners and others seeking or engaged in developing a national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and is als

o intended as a resource for academics, journalists and others interested in broadening their country’s poverty metrics, in line with the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The MPI identifies multiple deprivations at the household and individual level in health, education and standard of living. It uses micro data from household surveys which are aggregated into the national measure of poverty. It is a valuable complement to income-based poverty measures for governments, policy makers and development practitioners, and allows comparisons between countries and regions, as well as within countries.

Climate, Land-use, Energy and Water Systems Models

The Climate, Land-use, Energy and Water Systems (CLEWS) models are focused on assessing interlinkages between resource systems in order to understand how production and use of food, energy and wate

r security resources may contribute to climate change, and how climate change may affect resource systems. The models also assess where pressure points exist and how to minimise trade-offs. This type of framework for integrated resource assessments involves a strong quantification process which requires the development of sectoral models (for water, energy and land use), taking in consideration different climate futures.  The framework is applicable to different geographical scales, from global, to regional, national and urban levels.

iSDG Model

The Integrated Sustainable Development Goals (iSDG) Model is a comprehensive policy simulation tool that generates country-specific development scenarios to show the implications of policy on a cou

ntry’s progress towards achieving the SDGs. It is intended to help policymakers  understand the interlinked SDG system and to design efficient pathways to meet the 2030 Agenda. The model provides a platform to conduct on-the-spot simulation of a broad variety of policies simultaneously, and to assess their positive and negative synergies and trade-offs. The model covers all the 17 SDGs and can be calibrated for any country or region with data sourced locally or from international databases.

International Futures

The International Futures (IFs) tool integrates long-range models of 12 core systems: agriculture, demographics, economics,

education, energy, environment, government finance, governance, health, infrastructure, international politics and technology. The combined system facilitates forecasting for 186 countries and flexible country groupings with alternative scenarios through the SDG horizon of 2030 and 2100. The 12 sub-models include more than 600 variables that cut across all SDGs. IFs is packaged with more than 3,500 historical data series from a very wide range of data sources that facilitate cross-sectional analysis of SDG indicators across goals and targets.

The tool's scenario analysis feature is especially valuable for assessing the long-term impact of interventions within countries and across regions.

Rapid Integrated Assessment

The Rapid Integrated Assessment (RIA) aims to support countries in mainstreaming the SDGs into national and subnational planning, by helping assess their readiness for SDG implementation.

The tool suggests clear steps and templates for policy makers to conduct a RIA of the SDGs to determine their relevance to the country context, both at the national and subnational level, and identify interlinkages across targets. The assessment is a first step in defining a roadmap for a country to implement the SDGs.
