Integrating climate change adaptation into national, sub-national and sector planning and budgeting

Understanding the economic costs and benefits of climate change at the micro and sectoral level requires detailed information of the sector and the potential vulnerabilities. While there have been numerous ad hoc reports aimed at understanding the impact of climate change on different economies, detailed data that is required for rigorous evaluation and understanding of the impact and optimal adaptation strategy is typically lacking.

This toolkit addresses these gaps and provides a capacity building programme aimed at strengthening the skills and knowledge base of technical officers in Ministries of Planning and Finance as well as in line ministries including environment, agriculture and water, on the economics of adaptation as it relates to medium- and long-term national, sub-national and sectoral development plans. It is supported by UNDP, in collaboration with USAID’s Adapt Asia-Pacific programme.
