Country case

Ghana

UNDP together with Monitor Deloitte supported the global internet service provider Bluetown to understand the impact of its business initiatives in Ghana which aimed at boosting connectivity in underserved communities. Bluetown joined Business Call to Action’s Impact Champions Programme through which UNDP helped conduct several impact measurement studies and develop an SDG impact framework with a baseline in the village of Asumura. The assessment showed that the company – by increasing connectivity – contributed to ten SDG targets on poverty, health, education, gender equality, energy, jobs, infrastructure and reduced inequalities. This experience motivated the company to design an even more extensive and structured approach that will allow deeper insights into how its operations directly and indirectly impact communities.
